Drywall damage in Florida homes usually comes from one of three things: water from a roof, window, or AC leak; settling cracks at corners and above doors; or everyday impact, from doorknobs to furniture moves. Each one calls for a different fix.
Impact damage and settling cracks are almost always patchable. The trick is doing it properly: mesh or paper tape over cracks so they don't reopen, patches feathered wide, and multiple thin coats of compound sanded smooth. A patch that's just filled and painted will show a bump or a hairline in six months.
Water damage is different. If the drywall is soft, bowed, or stained through, the paper and gypsum have broken down and the section needs to be cut out and replaced. Painting over a water stain without fixing the source and replacing the board just lets the stain bleed back through, usually within weeks.
The last step is the one that makes or breaks the repair: texture. Most local homes have knockdown or orange peel finishes, and a smooth patch in a textured wall stands out even under new paint. Matching the texture, priming, and painting the whole wall is what makes a repair truly disappear.
